  Private Interest Foundations (Stiftung)

Similar to a trust, a Foundation is usually associated with Civil Law jurisdictions, whereas trusts are used in Common Law jurisdictions. The foundation, established by the Founder (Settlor), is a legally recognised entity the terms of which are set forth in a Foundation Deed. Assets are donated to the foundation by the Founder and administered by the Foundation Council. Private interest foundations are normally used for preservation of assets and distribution of proceeds to family members.
